If you were to ask us what is the most important quality a barrister can have when defending significant property under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009... we would say "street smarts", "cunning", "creativity", and a "good legal instinct". We can tell you these are attributes we do not find common to all lawyers. 

Criminal proceeds requires a certain type of barrister, a 'street fighter' who is both book and street smart, and if we may say so, not too long in the tooth. You don't have to be a professional in our industry to know that new ideas, creativity, and innovation do not usually come from those 40 years or more in a game. That is not a disrespect, but we generally like a PQE (post qualification experience) for our clients of between 3PQE and 40PQE max: we are finding criminal proceeds clients want this also.

So, when choosing counsel, look for those who you could see getting into it on the street, and in court.
